Email Driver
Choose and configure how WP Outreach sends your emails. The email driver determines the underlying method used to deliver your messages.
Accessing Email Driver Settings
Navigate to WP Outreach → Settings → Mailer in your WordPress admin.
Available Email Drivers
WP Outreach supports multiple email delivery methods:
| Driver | Best For | Speed | Deliverability |
|---|---|---|---|
| WordPress Mail | Testing, development | Slow | Poor |
| SMTP | Small to medium lists | Medium | Good |
| Amazon SES | High volume sending | Fast | Excellent |
WordPress Mail (Default)
Uses the built-in wp_mail() function. No configuration required, but not recommended for production use.
- Pros: Works out of the box, no setup needed
- Cons: Poor deliverability, often lands in spam, slow for large lists
Warning: Many shared hosts block or limit outgoing emails. WordPress Mail should only be used for testing.
SMTP
Send emails through an external SMTP server. Good balance of setup complexity and deliverability.
- Pros: Better deliverability, works with any SMTP provider
- Cons: Speed limits, requires SMTP credentials
Popular SMTP providers:
- Gmail / Google Workspace
- Outlook / Microsoft 365
- SendGrid
- Mailgun
- Postmark
See SMTP Configuration for detailed setup instructions.
Amazon SES
Amazon Simple Email Service (SES) is the recommended driver for high-volume sending.
- Pros: Excellent deliverability, very fast, cost-effective at scale
- Cons: Requires AWS account, initial sandbox limitations
See Amazon SES Setup for detailed setup instructions.
Choosing the Right Driver
| List Size | Recommended Driver |
|---|---|
| Testing only | WordPress Mail |
| Under 1,000 subscribers | SMTP |
| 1,000 – 10,000 subscribers | SMTP or Amazon SES |
| Over 10,000 subscribers | Amazon SES |
Testing Your Configuration
After configuring your email driver:
- Go to WP Outreach → Settings → Mailer
- Click Send Test Email
- Enter your email address
- Check your inbox (and spam folder)
If the test email arrives successfully, your configuration is correct.
Troubleshooting
Test Email Not Received
- Check spam/junk folder
- Verify credentials are correct
- Ensure your server can connect to the mail server (firewall rules)
- Check WP Outreach logs for error messages
Connection Timeout
- Your host may block outgoing SMTP connections
- Try using port 587 instead of 465
